Ten Life Lessons From The Past Ten Years

Life is our greatest teacher. Learning from experience is the pathway of true maturity. As someone once said, 'Life will either make you bitter or better.' The outcome to that is dependent on the attitude you take; the habits you form and the choices you make. So here are 10 lessons I’ve been learning over the past decade....

  1. Choose your battles well - not every hill is worth dying on. You must determine what is important to you and why, it will enable you to choose what ground to stand on.
  2. Lean into the faithfulness of God - it will hold you secure during insecure and uncertain times.
  3. Be ruthless in your generosity - it will become an antidote to a stingy spirit; it will keep you from bitterness and help you avoid emotional ruin.
  4. Take a careful measure on your energy and spend it well - not every project should have your time, not every possibility should draw on your resources.
  5. Understand the power of compounding. Little and often will change your life much better and much quicker than much and seldom. Learn how to change your life by incremental steps
  6. Learn to spot opportunity - sometimes it will only knock once and then moves on. Opportunity may be a latent gift that’s unearthed by the comment of another; it might be an investment or job opportunity. But it must be seized to become real. Avoid the dreamers.
  7. Cultivate an inner circle of honesty and accountability - it will keep you humble and help you avoid blind spots.
  8. Work hard to understand the rationale behind the opposing argument - it will enlighten your thinking, increase your perception - and at the same time stop you looking like a fool.
  9. Understand that forgiveness is the key to unlocking your own bitterness and resentment.
  10. Read and when you have read then read some more. Read widely, read regularly. Reading will unlock your imagination, empower your thinking and strengthen your argument.

And what of the coming decade? Well ,more of that later - but for now, A Happy New Year everyone!

There will be a great lesson to be learned in the different life moments that we experience. We just need to open our eyes and be aware of the things that are happening so that we may able to do the next right thing. There will be no disappointments and regrets. We will be glad because there is a great opportunity that we have found. I just wish that everything will be fine and I will always pray to the Lord.
